A Storyboard is a graphic organizer in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence, used to pre-visualize a motion picture, animation, or interactive media sequence. Storyboards are created during pre-production to help the director, DP, and other department heads plan the visual execution of each scene. They serve as a communication tool between the director and the crew, ensuring that everyone has a shared understanding of the intended shots before arriving on set.
The director presents the storyboards for the action sequence to the stunt coordinator and DP: "As you can see, I want to start with a wide shot of the chase, then cut to a low-angle shot of the car wheels, then a close-up of the driver's face. The storyboards should give you a clear sense of the coverage I need."
