Location Manager

Definition

The Location Manager is the production professional responsible for finding, securing, and managing all the filming locations used in a production. Their responsibilities include scouting locations that match the creative requirements of the script, negotiating location agreements and fees with property owners, obtaining all necessary permits from local authorities, managing the relationship between the production and the local community, and ensuring that all locations are left in the same condition they were found. The Location Manager works closely with the director, DP, and production designer.

Contextual Usage

The Location Manager reports to the production manager: "I've secured all the locations for the first three weeks of the shoot. The one outstanding issue is the rooftop scene — the building owner wants $15,000 per day, which is way over our budget. I'm currently negotiating with two alternative locations that might work. I'll have an answer by the end of the week."
