Electronic Press Kit (EPK)

Definition

An Electronic Press Kit (EPK) is a collection of promotional materials — including behind-the-scenes footage, cast and crew interviews, production stills, and B-Roll footage — assembled during production for use by the marketing and publicity departments. EPKs are distributed to media outlets, broadcasters, and online platforms to generate press coverage and publicity for the film or television show. The EPK crew (typically a small camera and sound team) works alongside the main production unit, capturing materials without disrupting the main shoot.

Contextual Usage

The publicist briefs the EPK crew: "I need you to capture at least two on-camera interviews with the director and the lead actors today. I also want plenty of B-Roll of the set — wide shots of the crew working, close-ups of the equipment, and any interesting production details. We're going to need this material for the press junket in six months."
