Shade v. MediaSilo

Shade v. MediaSilo

See how Shade stacks up against MediaSilo

Key takeaways

AI tagging & search.

DAMs should be solving the issues of costly and time consuming tagging and efficient search. Unlike MediaSilo where tagging has to be done manually, Shade leverages AI to auto tag and automate descriptions to save creatives and their teams countless hours and tens of thousands of dollars.

Cloud-exclusive platforms are limiting.

For teams working with tons of data, Cloud storage may not work for everyone. Shade is taking the best of cloud and on-prem storage as a file system for all data silos.

Real-time access & collaboration.

Collaboration is done best with instant reviewing, approving, and editing even if you're offline. Shade defines what a Real-time file system is.

Ready to switch from MediaSilo to Shade?

MediaSilo is yet another Google Drive alternative.

Cloud solutions have come in many shapes and forms. MediaSilo boasts a great video collaboration experience with high quality commenting, presentation links, and sharing workflows. However, like many cloud storage systems, we opt for the same workflows - upload all of the assets, wait for all of them to upload before being able to use them, sharing them with the people that need it, and then waiting for them to download it too. MediaSilo is no exception. Although it offers more “video-specific” features relative to Google Drive, it is still another solution that offers simple upload, transfer and share, and download.

In contrast - Shade breaks this paradigm completely. Rather than thinking about using MediaSilo as just a cloud and continuing to put your data into different silos, Shade unifies all of your assets no matter where the location is. Shade offers a hybrid solution that works with your storage locally, on-prem, and in the cloud. And, most importantly, it makes all of these areas searchable and instantly accessible by mounting all of your data to your computer as if all of the data was in the same room.

A real-time file system built for collaboration.

Shade builds a modern file system solution that enables your team to collaborate completely in real-time as if you were in the same room with all of your assets, no matter the location. Despite MediaSilo stating it works for real-time collaboration, it really doesn’t. MediaSilo users can’t live-review online assets, and has a 30GB upload limit which means excessive downtime between downloads and uploads. As a result of Shade’s technology, you will never need to wait for media and video files to upload or download again because you can use them in real-time in any of your downstream softwares (it will look just like files are sitting there on your computer). Most importantly, Shade takes on the scales with you - offering a variety of different storage purchase options, BYOS, and a cheaper per seat pricing that makes sense for your business.

One of the downfalls of MediaSilo is it’s purely cloud based which means you’re restricted to integrating media from cloud only sources. Because Shade works across all of your current data silos from any infrastructure, Shade is able to significantly reduce your costs by notifying you of what data is being heavily used, what data can be put into long-term storage, and what data can be put in the cloud for remote access (and all of this transfer process is done in Shade) - saving you time and money across all of your data.

With ShadeFS - your assets are at your fingertips, while MediaSilo your assets are stuck in the cloud.

Multimodal AI search.

Shade’s multimodal AI is built from the ground up to search not just video but images, video, audio, 3D, documents and more. We’ve designed our search functionality from neural search, filters, transcription, facial recognition, and our query language so you can truly never lose an asset again.

MediaSilo supports organization based projects and folders which have to be created manually. Metadata-driven asset organization by MediaSilo offers limited search power, manual tagging capability and also limited scrubbable previews and assets. Even after cataloguing folders of assets, users fine it difficult to find a specific file when the file does not have enough tags or search words. EXIF data is also not searchable within MediaSilo.

By combining ShadeFS with our multimodal AI search, Shade becomes your go to solution for all of your data ensuring that you not only can find what you need, but when you’ve found it, you can easily use it in your next project.

When to use MediaSilo over Shade

MediaSilo is well designed for video workflows and can be expensive as you scale with more and more assets. If you are predominantly using a DAM today to manage “final assets” that you would like to publish and or collaborate with users. MediaSilo might make sense and could replace your Frame.io that you might be using today. However, if you are working with your files on a daily basis, want to keep track of media archives, and current projects while also being able to have public and presentable links, access your files in real time, and true multimodal AI search, then Shade might be the best solution for your needs.
